Basaksehir and Gent are both professional football clubs with Basaksehir based in Istanbul, Turkey, and Gent based in Ghent, Belgium. Basaksehir was founded in 1990, while Gent was founded in 1864, making it one of the oldest football clubs in Belgium. Both clubs have enjoyed relative success in their domestic leagues, with Basaksehir winning the Turkish Super Lig for the first time in their history in the 2019/20 season, and Gent winning the Belgian Pro League in the 2014/15 season. The two teams have faced each other twice in the UEFA Europa League, with one win for each team.
